Troubleshooting INIT Errors on IDP Printers
The "INIT" error stands for "initialization" and is most commonly caused by issues related to printer consumables such as ribbon or laminate film.
Checklist to Resolve INIT Errors:
- Verify Proper Installation of Ribbon and Laminate Film
Ensure all consumables are correctly loaded. Reference the videos below for proper installation:
Ribbon Installation:
Laminator Film Installation:
- Check Consumable Levels
INIT errors can occur if the ribbon or laminate has run out. To check remaining balances:
- Go to Control Panel in Windows
- Select Devices and Printers
- Right-click on your IDP Smart-51L printer
- Select Printer Properties
- Click the Service tab
- Expand the Printer and Laminator menus
- Use the Correct Consumables
The Smart-51L and SOLID-510L use different consumables. Verify you’re using Smart-51L-compatible products:
- 659366 – YMCKO Color Ribbon
- 659376 – YMCKOK Color Ribbon with Monochrome Back
- 659390 – Clear Laminate
- 659392 – Globe Laminate
- Use the Official Power Adapter
Non-authentic or underpowered adapters can prevent proper initialization. Always use the power adapter provided by IDP.
